Acupuncture x Sound

In Immersion

We Find Presence

-Michael Wagner, PHD, Professor of Digital Media, Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design at Drexel University

Om \ Wave is an immersive sound and acupuncture project created by Dr. Shamus, a doctor of Eastern medicine and sound designer. It combines the traditions of acupuncture with advanced spatial audio to help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and support the body’s natural balance.

Using Dolby Atmos technology, Om \ Wave creates a three-dimensional sound field where tones and textures move above, behind, and around you. This isn’t background music — it’s sound designed to be felt as much as heard, encouraging a shift into interoception: the awareness of what’s happening inside your body.

There are two ways to experience Om \ Wave:

• Acupuncture + Sound Sessions — Available in both private and community settings. Acupuncture treatments are paired with immersive soundscapes, tuned to deepen relaxation and enhance the body’s response.

• Live Performances — Real-time sound environments built for deep listening. Each performance blends tones, textures, and field recordings into an atmosphere that changes with the space and the people present.

At its core, Om \ Wave is about creating spaces that allow the body and mind to slow down, reconnect, and reset — whether in a treatment room, a shared group session, or a performance hall.

  • From start to finish, plan for about an hour. We begin with a brief intake and an overview of what to expect, giving you time to settle in and ask questions. The sound or sound + acupuncture experience itself unfolds without rush, allowing your body and mind to move naturally toward stillness. We close with a few quiet moments to transition back, so you leave grounded and ready to step back into your day.

  • We offer both private room and community sessions — both with a full Dolby Atmos immersive multi-speaker setup array.

Private sessions follow the same pricing as our standard acupuncture appointments: a 90-minute initial session, followed by 60-minute follow-ups.

Community sessions are offered on a sliding scale between $40–$65, making it easy to choose a contribution that feels right for you while still receiving the full experience.

  • Spatial sound is audio that moves in three dimensions — not just left and right, but above, behind, and around you. In an Om \ Wave session, this means tones can pass close to your ear, drift into the distance, or sweep overhead, creating a sense of space you can feel as much as hear. Using Dolby Atmos technology, each element is placed with precision so the sound behaves like a living environment, inviting your mind and body into a deeper state of interoception and calm.

  • Traditional sound baths rely on a set of instruments arranged at the front of the room, with sound radiating outward in a single direction. Om \ Wave surrounds you instead — using Dolby Atmos technology to move tones above, behind, and through the space in three dimensions. Every soundscape is composed by Dr. Clancey, blending advanced sound design, natural recordings, and the healing principles of Eastern medicine. The result is less like listening to a performance and more like stepping into a living, breathing landscape designed for your nervous system.

  • Not at all. Om \ Wave is built to meet you exactly where you are. You don’t have to “do” anything — the sound and, if chosen, acupuncture treatment will guide your body naturally toward a calmer, more connected state. Many participants describe a gentle shift into interoception — the awareness of inner sensations — without effort or technique. Whether you’re brand new to this kind of work or a seasoned meditator, the experience will be unique to you.
